My name is Mike and I'm passionate about helping people improve their health! After years of struggling with my own issues (read my story below), I've found balance, and I want to help you find yours! I'm a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach trained by the FMCA (Functional Medicine Coaching Academy), the only coaching program associated and founded in collaboration with the IFM (The Institute for Functional Medicine). I chose to train with the FMCA because of its emphasis on empowering individuals to take control of their own health through the scientifically proven efficacy of lifestyle change. I also hold a PhD in Music Composition from the University of Chicago. I have been married for over 25 years, am a father of 3 daughters, and am an avid cook.

My Story
A quest for optimal health
I'm on a lifelong quest to find optimal health and happiness. While still tweaking things here and there, I can honestly say that I feel great–and I want the same for you!
It wasn't always that way...
A
child of the '70s and '80s, I binged on sugary, starchy foods and TV. I
watched nearly every episode of every popular show and ate all the
ultra-processed foods there were to eat. To prove it, my teeth were
filled with cavities, the inside of my cheeks with painful cankers, my
belly was chronically constipated, and I suffered from endless ear, eye
and throat infections that were treated with countless rounds of
antibiotics each year. I was overweight and teased for it at school.
Stressed out with constant nightmares, I began dieting at a young age
with the guidance of my parents who were well meaning but struggling
too.
Throughout my 20s and 30s and into my early 40s, I was often depressed and blamed myself for my lack of exercise and willpower. What I didn't realize was that my insulin levels were continuously sent soaring by the foods I ate, leaving me lethargic and chronically inflamed.
Jump
to the present... I've NOW got the energy, mental focus, the metabolic
flexibility and healthy body that I should have had in my late teens.
Having reached middle age, my goal is to keep that vitality as long as I
live, to stay healthy for as long as possible. I'll do it by continuing
to eat the foods I love that love me back, by building and
strengthening my relationships, by staying physically active, spending
time in nature, continuing to learn, getting good rest, breathing
deeply, growing spiritually, showing gratitude. These are all important,
interconnected facets that will increase the good years, my
healthspan!
